In my work, I like to use unconventional figures and shapes, along with dramatic light. Both elements combined create intriguing imagery with thought provoking content. The way a piece looks and the feeling you get from it is more important than what the figure is doing.
Art history is fascinating to me and I am incessantly trying to learn as much as I can about different artists and movements. The artists of the impressionist era are particularly captivating to me; they heavily influence my artwork. As a photographer, I am inspired by many of the greats, from Cindy Sherman to Margaret Bourke-White. Their photographs taught me the importance of facial expression.
Technology is a large part of my Artwork. Often I use 35mm film to capture an image then scan the film into my computer in order to work on the images within Adobe Photoshop. I find working with photos in Photoshop a great way to explore the possibilities of what I can create.
As for my professional career, I am a freelance Digital imaging Specialist, which entails color correcting and overall enhancing digital images for wedding, portrait and a few commercial photographers. I also do some design work for brochures, ad layouts, website design and coffee table books. I enjoy the independence my type of job allows but I do not have as much creative freedom as I would like. So when I can I like to experiment creatively as much as I can to create something unique.
